411 on Preventative Botox

September 23, 2018

Let’s chat for a sec about botox.

I’m 23 years old and got botox for the first time 4 months ago, and I’m not ashamed of it at all.

Let’s face it wrinkles and aging are a fact. We are all going to get older and age, BUT we can do things to age slower and more gracefully. Instead of waiting until those deep wrinkles form, consider doing something about it now!

A lot of people have this huge misconception about botox.

NOTE: Botox is NOT filler. Botox does not plump up your skin or make areas of your face more full. Botox is also not permanent.

What is Botox?

Botox paralyzes the muscles in your face so you can’t move them as much. By paralyzing the muscles and not being able to move them as much- i.e., not causing lines, you are preventing wrinkles from forming and getting deeper.

I’m a freak about anti-aging. I started an anti-aging nightly skin care routine when I was 17 or 18, I wear sunscreen everyday rain or shine and haven’t looked back since. I started thinking about botox when I was about 20 but thought I was too young. I am 23 now, and I began to notice the lines on my forehead and the lines between my eyebrows were getting more prominent (I scowl a lot when I’m concentrating.)

Some of my friends get botox, and they are the same age as me, so I said, “f*%k it, I’m doing it.” I want to keep wrinkles at bay for as long as possible. I made an appointment and went in June.

It’s been 4 months since I got botox, I can still move my face but wrinkles aren’t forming anymore, and those fine lines that were there have slowly been fading away. Yes, you read that correctly. You can still move your face when you get botox you just can’t contract your muscles enough to form wrinkles.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Botox should last anywhere from 4-5 months.

Note, I got mine touched up after 4 months because I still had a lot of movement in-between my eyebrows (11 lines) and I don’t want that.

How Much Does Botox Cost:

This totally depends on where you live. In my area botox is $10/unit.

Don’t quote me on this, but on average I would say botox costs anywhere from $10-$15/unit.

Since I’m injected with such a small amount, Botox doesn’t break the bank, but if my budget is a bit tighter when my appointment rolls around it’s something that I can push off to the next month or two when I have more cash flow. Def not a necessity.

Where On Your Face Do You Get Botox?

I get botox on my forehead and in between my eyebrows for those 11 lines.

You can get Botox injected into some crazy areas, like your armpits, hands, feet & scalp to prevent excess sweating, in your jaw to help with clinching and grinding; botox even helps people who suffer from migraines.

Popular areas of your face to inject botox are on the side of your eyes to prevent crows feet, between eyebrows for 11 lines, forehead, around lips, even on your nose to prevent scrunching.

Does Botox Hurt?

This is a really hard question for me to answer because my pain tolerance is extremely high.

Personally, I don’t think it hurts at all. Just a small little prick right when the injection hits.

Just remember, you are getting injected with something that paralyzes your face, so just consider that. If you are someone who doesn’t deal well with pain, know that it only lasts a second!!

I get my botox injected at a Med Spa by a doctor or a medical aesthetician. A lot of dermatologists do this as well, so do your research and find a great derm or med spa to go to. Read reviews, ask your friends if they get it and who they go to, etc.

In Mississippi, I see the fab doctors at The Face and Body Center and in Indiana, I go to MidWest Skin Insitute

For those of you who have been curious about preventative botox, I hope this post answers some of your questions! If you have any other Q’s, let me know in the comments and I’ll answer them!
