The Best Purple Shampoo for Blonde Hair

December 12, 2018

CALLING ALL MY BLONDIES &  BRUNETTES WITH HIGHLIGHTS!

I’m always on the lookout for the best purple shampoo to keep my hair super blonde and brassiness at bay between colors. Over the course of about a month, I tested of some of the so-called “best” purple shampoos on the market.

I’m here to tell you which ones worked & which did not.

best purple shampoo

1. Milk Shake

Ok ladies, this shampoo is no joke. My hairdresser used this on me when I went in for an Olaplex treatment & a trim. I wasn’t due for a color, but my blonde was definitely sad. She washed my hair with this stuff, and my blonde was immediately restored.

Caution: this stuff turns EVERYTHING purple. Your hands, the shower walls- don’t worry, it all washes off I just feel like everyone should be warned before they use it.

I normally let purple shampoo chill in my hair while I wash my body and even shave my legs, but I do not recommend doing that with this stuff. It’s potent as hell- put some of this in your hands, scrub it into your hair for MAX 3 minutes and immediately wash it out.

I have let this sit in my hair a little too long, and my hair did pick up some of the purple, but I just washed my hair a second time with normal shampoo, and it lifted right out.

If you’re blonde is looking a little sad or extra brassy, I definitely recommend picking up a bottle of this and using it when your hair needs a little extra lift, but I wouldn’t use it as a daily wash shampoo.

2. Pureology Best Blonde Purple Shampoo

I love Pureology! I use a lot of their products and love all of them, so I was expecting a lot out of this purple shampoo.

It just didn’t do it for me.

I think my expectations were so high because I love this brand so much. Don’t get me wrong; it did lift my blonde without the shampoo having to sit on my hair for a long time. I was just expecting so much more.

3. Matrix So Silver Shampoo

I’ve never heard of this brand before. I was browsing the shampoo aisle at Ulta, and their branding really caught my eye, so I bought a travel size bottle and decided to try it out!

The directions say it apply with gloves and leave on no longer than 3 minutes. Well, I didn’t use gloves, and the shampoo didn’t stain my hands nearly as bad as the Milk Shake shampoo did.

After reading the directions, I thought this would turn my hair purple, so I scrubbed it into my hair and immediately washed it out. It wasn’t as potent as I expected so I decided to rewash & let it sit in my hair for about 5 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised with this shampoo, and on my next trip to Ulta, I’m going to pick up a full-size bottle!

4. Schwarzkopf Blonde Me Keratin Restore Shampoo

I was sent this by a PR company and decided to give it a try because like I said previously, I’m always on the lookout for a great purple shampoo that boosts my hair between colors!

With that being said, I took this on vacay with me and used it every single time I washed my hair and didn’t see a difference in the color or brightness of my hair at all. It left my hair feels really nice and didn’t seem to dry my hair out at all put in regards to the strength of the purple aspect it just didn’t do it for me.

5. Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo

I’ve been using this Purple Shampoo since I started coloring my hair 3 years ago. This is one I can leave in my hair for 5-10 minutes while I wash my body, shave my legs, sing a couple of songs lol.

My hair has never picked up any purple color from it, it lifts my blonde just the slightest amount, so it’s great for a more “daily” shampoo and Paul Mitchell makes a matching conditioner that is really nice and leaves my hair feeling super silky!

The Platinum Blonde shampoo hasn’t let me down yet, so this is the one I keep reaching for over and over again!

If I would rate all of the 1-5, 1 being the best and 5 being the worst here’s how it goes:

  1. Milkshake
  2. Paul Mitchell
  3. Matrix
  4. Pureology
  5. Schwarzkopf

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this post & if you’ve used any of these shampoos. If you use any of these, let me know why you love it in the comments!
